Blog post #2

1.      I really enjoyed this video and it really made me thing about technology.  I never realized that technology was growing so fast and that our facebook, skype, and other social networking tools were growing as fast as they are.  I did find one thing in the presentation that struck me really hard, “for students starting a four year degree, half of what they learn will be outdated by their third year".  I find this amazing because it just really shows us how fast technology is growing and how much we use this in our everyday lives.
I also liked finding out how much we use our technological devices every day.  It amazed me to think that we send and receive text messages so much that it exceeds the human population.  People live with their phones or PDA's and we use them for so much more than talking. I think that technology will always play a major part in our everyday lives and I look forward to learning more about it.

2.     This video was very interesting and kid friendly. I think that by letting young children watch this they will understand that technology is in our everyday lives.  They will know how things are used and why they are used.  I like that it explained and gave examples about the technology that was being used.  The language is kid friendly and it really gets down on their level.
I didn’t like the part about school being so simple and all about lecturing.
I felt like it confused the children because it was all talk about the way we use               technology and then it said that it wasn’t used in schools.  I think that technology is a very important part of the school systems.  In today’s world children use technology better than most adults and this shows us something and shows us that the adults of tomorrow are going to be more technological than we ever imagined.

3.     This video was very entertaining and I really enjoyed watching him speak.   I agree with his thoughts on how much education and technology changes every day.  He said that people don’t know how the world will look in five years and I agree with that all we can do is prepare our students the best way we know how.  If technology didn’t change ever we would have a major problem. It’s good that technology changes as rapidly as it does, I feel that it keeps us on our game.  When he was talking about creativity I really connected with him.  Creativity is the best way to reach a child and without it we don’t have anything.  Children learn through creativity and they retain it better when they have something creative to help them.  I do see what he’s talking about when he says schools are limiting creativity; all they want to do is pass the children to the next grade.
I loved that he commented that we don’t grow into creativity but that we grow out of it.  I completely agree because how many adults do you see now days that draw a picture to explain something verses writing it out in words?   I will be watching more videos by ken because he doesn’t sugar coat anything and he is funny.  I like his truths because I am a strong believer in using creativity to the fullest.  I will use creativity in every part of my teaching whether it is math or writing or even social studies.

4.     I agree with this teacher completely.  She said at one point that we as teachers think that we need to know everything about technology before we can teach it but that’s wrong, I feel that this is a true statement.  Since technology changes so much everyday there is no way to know every little thing about technology.  I believe there should be more classes like her in every grade level not just high school.  There is technology that can be used in a kindergarten classroom.  If we start early then as technology progresses we can better prepare our students and they will know how to use technology properly.
I really liked the idea of digital citizenship and corresponding with people from around the world.  The digiteen program is amazing and it really gives children the tools to learn how to research and use technology at the same time.  It also gives them experiences they may not get in a regular everyday school system.

  1. Brittney,

It is good to see that you are really buying into the message that these videos bring. I know that your students will benefit from the creativity that you want them to use in your classroom.

One thing to think about when you are posting on your blog: Always title each subject(in this case videos)that you are posting, and also think about adding links for easy access to your videos.

    Good job! Keep on blogging!

  2. I agree about the second video being "kid friendly." I will also be watching more videos by Ken because he made REALLY good points! His video was by far my favorite, with the first one being next. The first video was very well put together and also made me realize how fast social networks grow. You made some really good points!
